“I feel I am being taken seriously”
Ludger Belmann had initially spoken out in favour of reducing the delivery obligation. But the 62-year-old has since backtracked.

“I take a very positive view of the current development of milk prices. After a very disappointing year in 2023, this is a good reason for me to continue supplying DMK. At the representatives' meeting, I felt that there was not enough transparency in advance that the average farm-gate value would fall so much in 2022 after a strong previous year. This was one of the reasons why I decided to reduce the two-year commitment to sell milk to DMK to one year - an offer from DMK to farmers who leave, which I think is very good. But for the time being I am not doing this, I am extending the obligation to sell milk to DMK. I will see how the milk market develops, how DMK reacts to it, and I will decide next year whether to stick to my decision to resign.

What I really like is that the board is going out of their way with me; they really want to understand why I'm unhappy. I feel I am being taken seriously. That gives me a good basis for discussion, because I want to know exactly how DMK intends to continue and how it intends to take us farmers on board. The 400-year-old family business should continue and we should enjoy being dairy farmers.”
