The Edewecht site started this year with three milk collection trucks that represent DMK's climate protection goals. The plan is to convert all 80 milk collection trucks by 2027, saving around 13,500 tonnes of CO₂. The trucks will run on liquid biomethane, which is a climate-neutral fuel, unlike LNG, which is produced from fossil natural gas. “Whether the sustainable operation of truck fleets in the future will be achieved with e-mobility or hydrogen technology is still open to debate. However, we are already working on the decarbonisation of our fleet with bio-LNG as a bridging technology between diesel and the drive system of the future, and we are proud to be the first dairy cooperative to go down this path,” says Thomas Hermann, COO Supply Chain Management. At the Edewecht site, DMK has built a bio-LNG filling station in cooperation with fuel suppliers, which is also used by partner transporters.
