All DMK sites in Germany are certified in accordance with ISO 14001 (Environmental management) and ISO 50001 (Energy management). An integrated management system, uniting quality, occupational health and safety, the environment and energy, handles the responsible treatment of valuable resources. The DMK Group’s direct energy consumption came to 1,401,516,738 kWh in 2022 (2021: 1,520,094,616 kWh). Between 2012 and 2020, DMK succeeded in reducing its energy consumption by more than 15% or in not consuming any at all.
Within the remit of the “Kopernikus-Projekte für die Energiewende” (research projects run by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research), DMK’s Energy Management is working on opportunities to use energy more economically and in a more grid-friendly way in future. In the “SynErgie” sub-project, we are driving forward important model calculations to find out how individual production processes and plant can be integrated flexibly and profitably into the energy market. This knowledge has already been demonstrated in practice at the Edewecht factory. There are plans to integrate cold stores into the overall model in future. In a second development phase, the DMK Group’s energy management will work for three more years on flexibility in the area of refrigeration plants. Several factories have been under review for possible optimisation potentials since 2020.
