High in the north, approximately 20 km west of Neumünster is the DMK Hohenwestedt factory. Here, Kristina Sturm produces powdered milk, butter and cottage cheese along with her 140 colleagues. The photo shows her examining a powdered milk sample for its individual ingredients using an infrared device. “I will then carry out further tests to analyse the pH value and the purity of the powder, among other things”, explains Sturm.

The laboratory technician finds the current situation surrounding the coronavirus pandemic very unusual but necessary: “We are complying with the social distancing rules. The situation has forced the canteen to close, which is why I now always prepare my lunch to bring to work”. What has hit them and the other site employees the hardest, though, is the cancellation of this year's summer party, which was planned for 15 May.

The employees had been planning and financing the summer party themselves for the past year. Last year, when this festival took place for the first time, it was a total success, so it’s a real shame that it has had to be postponed this year due to COVID 19. “But we'll make up for it, maybe it'll just be an autumn festival”, laughs Sturm.
